May 13th - Midday

Dungeon at St. Peter in Gallicantu
Steps of the Palace of Caiaphas - Where Jesus Walked the night of his arrest.
Looking back to the Mount of Olives from the Steps of Caiaphas
The Dung Gate looking out from the Old City.

One of the places I most wanted to see were the places where we knew Jesus walked. The steps of Caiaphas, the High Priest, is one of those special places. This Hasmonean stairway was in use in Christ's time and it is next the Palace of Caiaphas. Looking back to the Mount of Olives to see just how far Jesus had to walk after bleeding from every pore in the Garden of Gethsemane. The hills are much steeper than you might think. Next to the steps is a church commemorating the traditional site of Peter's denial of Christ built in 1931. it is built over ancient caves similar to those described in Jeremiah where the prophet was lowered into a dungeon with a harness. In the dungeon there was also an area where they would tie up the prisoner and whip them.
